The MTK Commission elected Juha Marttila President of the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) for the remaining 3-year period, i.e. to the end of 2010. Marttila takes up his post immediately. The resigning President, Michael Hornborg, will concentrate on farming his wife's estate in Laakspohja, Lohja.
Marttila is aged 42, an agronomist and Doctor of Science (Agriculture and Forestry). He is the owner of a dairy farm with 80 cows in Simo. The family consists of his wife and two children aged 12 and 13.
Marttila has held the position of Vice-Chairman at MTK since 2005. He has been a farmer from the year 2000 and a part-time researcher at the Pellervo Economic Research Institute (PTT) 2000–2004. He was employed at the Agricultural Economics Research Institute as a researcher and specialist researcher in 1990-2000.
